How the Menstrual Disc
The Menstrual Disc is designed to adapt naturally to most bodies. When folded for insertion, it is about the same width as a tampon, and once in place it rests comfortably below the cervix where it collects menstrual fluid.
We offer two sizes to help you find your best fit:
If you are unsure, you also have the option to order two different sizes in one order. This way you can try them both and discover which one feels best for your body.
Every body is unique, and sometimes it takes a little practice to find your perfect fit. If you need guidance, our customer service team is always happy to help.
Can the disc empty by itself?
Some women notice that the Menstrual Disc can empty a little by itself when going to the toilet. This is called self emptying. For some it happens on heavier flow days, for others only sometimes, and for many not at all. All of these experiences are normal.
How does self emptying work?
When you sit on the toilet your pelvic floor muscles naturally relax and push down. This can cause the rim of the disc to tilt slightly so that some fluid is released into the toilet. Once you stand up the disc usually moves back into place on its own.
Do I need to worry about leaks?
No. The disc stays securely in place during everyday activities like exercising, sneezing, coughing or laughing. These movements do not relax the pelvic floor muscles in the same way as going to the toilet. If you have a heavier flow and want extra peace of mind you can empty the disc before training or wear a light liner as backup.
How do I reposition the disc after self emptying?
In most cases the disc returns to its position automatically when you stand up. Some women find that doing a gentle squeeze with the pelvic muscles helps it settle back in. If you want extra reassurance you can also use a finger to make sure it is sitting comfortably behind the pubic bone again.
Taking good care of your Menstrual Disc helps keep it safe, fresh and long lasting. Cleaning is simple and only takes a few minutes.
During your period, remove and rinse the disc every 12 hours. Always wash your hands first. Rinse the disc with cold water, then wash with warm water and a mild, fragrance free soap or cleanser. Make sure to clean both sides of the rim before rinsing again. Let it air dry or gently shake off excess water before reinserting.
When your cycle ends, clean the disc thoroughly and let it dry completely before storing it. Always store it in a cool, dry place. For extra convenience, you can also keep it in our protective case, which is available separately.
For deeper cleaning, it is a good idea to boil your disc once a month. Place it in boiling water for 5–10 minutes, making sure it does not touch the bottom or sides of the pot. Allow it to cool and dry fully before storing.
If you prefer, you can use our steriliser cup as an easy alternative to boiling. Simply fill it with water and place it in the microwave for a few minutes. This option can be purchased separately as an accessory.
If you ever experience a yeast or bacterial infection, remove and dispose of the disc. Wait until you are fully recovered before using a new one.
